Competency-to-Curriculum Toolkit
Developed by the Association for Prevention Teaching and Research and Columbia Universitys School of Nursing Center for Health Policy, the Competency-to-Curriculum Toolkit is meant to be a resource that any public health worker interested in the education and training of the workforce can use to retrieve the right tool for carrying out the activities for moving from a competency set to developing a curriculum. The first part of the Toolkit is competency-focused: assumptions, definitions and development. The appendix to this is a matrix of known public health related competency sets from many sources, with access
information. The second part of the Toolkit focuses on the process of moving from competencies to curriculum and training modalities, with an example of the process using one of the key leadership competencies.

New Publications

Challenges Encountered in Capacity Building: Review of Literature and Selected Tools
Drawing from extensive research carried out by the Management Sciences for Health (MSH)-led AIDSTAR-Two Project, Challenges Encountered in Capacity Building: Review of Literature and Selected Tools provides a comprehensive view of the current state of organizational capacity building, particularly in the context of HIV & AIDS. By highlighting the challenges faced in current capacity building efforts, and presenting practical recommendations to improve and advance the discipline, this
paper is a valuable tool for implementing partners, donors, and providers of organizational capacity building both within and beyond HIV & AIDS programs.

Core Competencies for Public Health Professionals
The Core Competencies for Public Health Professionals (Core Competencies) are a set of skills desirable for the broad practice of
public health. Adopted by the Council on Linkages between Academia and Public Health Practice, the competencies reflect the characteristics that staff of public health organizations (collectively) may want to possess as they work to protect and promote health in the community. The Core Competencies are designed to serve as a starting point for academic and practice organizations to understand, assess, and meet education, training and workforce needs.
